    GENERAL INFORMATION

Ringette … an energetic ice sport with a difference!
    • We provide an opportunity for girls and young women to play the ice sport of RINGETTE.
    • Skating is emphasized as is fitness, coordination, judgment, teamwork, positional play and sportsmanship. Great opportunity for girls to have fun and stay fit.
    • Ringette is an exciting ice sport. Players typically find ringette a faster skating sport compared to hockey. Unlike hockey, body checking is prohibited. Equipment for ringette differs slightly from hockey. Ringette rules promote passing and team play.
    • Skating lessons are offered for young children (both girls and boys) in our Learn to Skate program. Skating lessons form an excellent foundation to support later play in either ringette or hockey, or both.
    • We offer weekly games, practices or Learn to Skate sessions from September to April.
    • Power Skating sessions are offered from September to March.
    • End of season banquet and trophies/awards are included.

    VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

The Cambridge Ringette Association (CRA) is a non-profit sports organization, run by unpaid volunteers who are dedicated to providing an opportunity for girls and young women to participate and compete in the ice sport of Ringette, at whatever level their talents will allow.

    WHY VOLUNTEER …
Without volunteers, the CRA would not exist. The success of our organization is dependant on volunteers who devote their time to provide a positive, fun environment for our children. Consider volunteering your time to help improve our Association and the experience of our players. There is always plenty of work to do and the rewards are shown every season when players take to the ice. Make your child’s RINGETTE experience a positive one … get involved !!!

    HOW CAN I HELP …
Parents, relatives, friends and older ringette players are urged to donate a few hours of volunteer time each month or each quarter. Players, friends and relatives who are in high school can apply volunteer time against high school graduation requirements. There are many ways to help.

    CRA Executive
Participate in a leadership role on our CRA Executive. Elections are held for Executive positions at the Annual General Meeting. CRA Executive are required to attend Meetings once per month. Executive members will typically commit a few additional hours of personal time each month depending upon duties required. Executive positions include President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Registrar, Ice Convenor, Equipment Convenor, Director of Coaches, Learn to Skate Convenor, Bunny Convenor, Regional Convenor, Provincial Convenor, Referee In Chief, Public Relations and Sport Development Coordinator.

Apply to Coach or be a Coach in Training
Coaching is a great way to be involved. CRA teams are coached by qualified volunteers. Training to attain qualifications is funded by the CRA. Coaching applications are received each spring for the coming season. Head Coach duties include selecting a coaching staff, creating a business plan/team budget, and organizing tournaments for the team. The minimum age for Coach in Training (CIT) is currently 16 years of age.

    Referee / Officiate Games
Officiating is a great way for players who enjoy ringette to get more ice time, be involved in the sport in a new way, and give something back to the game. To certify as an on-ice official, one must attend a certification course and pass a test. Basic certification can be obtained in one weekend, after which a referee will be qualified to officiate younger players. To advance in certification to officiate higher levels of competition, the referee is evaluated on the ice during games. In addition to getting healthy exercise, it’s fun, and REFEREES ARE PAID for each game they officiate. CRA is eager to certify more players as referees. You must be a responsible, mature individual and at least 13 years of age. Contact the CRA Referee-In-Chief for more information. See our CRA Executive page for contact information.

    Timekeepers / Scorekeepers
A great way for players to earn extra pocket money. This is a PAID position. You must be responsible, mature and between the ages of 11 and 14. Timekeepers and scorekeepers are required for all home games. Training is provided by the CRA Director of Minor Officials. Contact the CRA Director of Minor Officials for more information. See our CRA Executive page for contact information.

    Bingos
Volunteers are required to help run our Bingos at the Cambridge Bingo Centre. A time commitment of 4 hours (for one Bingo) is required. The profits from our Bingos are turned back to the program to help keep our fees low, buy uniforms, goalie equipment, rings, pay for ice, game officials and certify new coaches. Each CRA team must provide volunteers to assist with Bingo hours.

Only have time for a few hours a season to help out?
Talk to an executive member. There's always need for help fundraising, marketing, tournaments or sponsorships.
