Agnes Jacks Memorial Award OVERVIEW The Cambridge Ringette Association is pleased to announce the creation of a new award to honour the memory of the late Agnes Jacks who passed away in April 2005 at the age of 81.
For more than 30 years, Agnes Jacks promoted Ringette as a means for girls and women to benefit from the physical activity and personal growth derived from team sports. Her husband, Sam, invented the game of Ringette in 1963. Following Sam’s death in 1975, Agnes worked passionately to promote Ringette both within Canada and around the world. Agnes knew that Ringette was a unique sport – a game of unparalleled speed, finesse, and perhaps more importantly, passion. Through her tireless efforts, Agnes imparted the importance of perseverance, good conduct and fair play to tens of thousands of young athletes. Mrs. Jacks’ devotion to the sport was returned through the endless respect and admiration that Ringette athletes around the world had for her. Agnes was Honorary President of the International Ringette Association, a member of the Order of Canada, and Canada’s Goodwill Ringette Ambassador.
PURPOSE The purpose of this award is to encourage personal excellence among members of the Cambridge Ringette Association. It is also meant to keep Agnes’ memory alive - ensuring that her message and her spirit are carried on for many years.
ELEGIBILITY All current members of the Cambridge Ringette Association are eligible for this award. Each year, one Cambridge player will be selected who best embodies the Ringette spirit and passion envisioned by Agnes Jacks. The player selected will foster the highest standards of sportsmanship, personal excellence, perseverance, team play, good conduct and passion for the game of Ringette.
NOMINATION and SELECTION PROCESS Players may be nominated for this award by a coach, parent or fellow player. The completed nomination will include player information including rational describing how the individual embodies the spirit and passion of Ringette. All nominations must be submitted between Feb 24th, 2010 to March 24th, 2010. Nominations will be reviewed by the Cambridge Ringette Executive. The recipient will be announced at the Annual Awards Banquet. Email form to Cathy Nie - Cathy's Email
