The Cambridge Turbos of the National Ringette League recently held fundraisers for the Because I am a Girl program.

The program’s aim is to empower the world’s poorest girls to combat the discrimation they face, as some can’t go to school because of their sex.

During the Cambridge Ringette Tournament last month, the team held a bake sale and sold tickets to one of their games, bringing in $1,060.

A few weeks later, the Turbos hosted a ringette clinic for 60 girls, with each participant asked to make a donation. An additional $335 was raised for the program.

“We are so pleased with how well our fundraising events went and how generous people were,” said Turbos’ Christina Mascherin.

“Our team loves what this campaign represents and how it empowers girls all over the world.”
